A thousand choices... a single destination

Municipality of Nea Anchialos

This is one of the most important market towns in the prefecture. Etymologically, the name means 'city of the sea'. It is famed for its beautiful beach of black sand, its picturesque harbour, pine-clad hill (the acropolis of ancient Pyrasos) and its archaeological finds.
There are archaeological sites to be found all over the district: the remains of secular buildings as well as early Christian churches with superb mosaics

Nea Anchialos is also home to one of the prefecture's two airports. There is all the tourist infrastructure (hotels, rented rooms, transport, conference facilities) to guarantee a relaxed and comfortable vacation.
There are a number of picturesque coastal villages - Kritharia, Marathos, Aghios Georgios Kynigon, Megali Valanidia and Dimitriada - ideal for short excursions. There are also cultural events all year round, chief among them the wine festival at the end of July or beginning of August, when the Dimitra Farmers' Cooperative, one of Greece's largest wine producers, offers free wine for everyone.
